What a beautiful spot Parish Wood is in Filey

What a beautiful spot Parish Wood is in Filey FBOG whose membership manage the woods made us welcome and we got on with the days task, laying a hedge, its amazing how much can be done by volunteers in a day. We managed two stretches and we would have liked to do more unfortunately some of the hedge was to thinly planted, so we recommended some infilling and in a few years time we can come back and finish the full strip. We hope to work with the Filey Bird observatory group again in the near future on their stunning reserves and to have FBOG visit us on Raincliffe meadow

This Saturday the volunteers will be concentrating on that wonderful task of cutting back the Black and Hawthorn on our Western boundary, planting a mixed hedge on the same stretch .

On Wednesday The Wed group will be concentrating on path revetment on East gate and cutting back the brambles on the same stretch of path.

unacceptable behaviour

A note to all SCV’s and others who may use  Raincliffe woods.

In view of the behaviour displayed by Mr John Bradley (which included a witnessed assault on Ron Baxter) and his two accomplices towards a group of SCV’s including another member of the public, who were legally engaged on a chainsaw training and assessment course at the time. We strongly advise that you do not engage with with Mr Bradley, or his accomplices at any time as we cannot guarantee that he, or anyone in his company will act in an appropriate manner.

If you are approached, and feel that you are being threatened in any way, we advise that you contact the Police immediately.

Well done you chainsaw stars

What a grand day three people through the basic chainsaw course two through the big stuff and one through a refresher,Its was a shame we had to call the police though ,the world is full of silly angry men unfortunately its behavior we have come to expect of john Bradley

Next Sat we will be concentrating on finishing thinning  the blackthorn clearing working on the path and cutting the Bramble back. The Wed group will be going to filey at long last and start working on the hedge and on the following week back into the meadow to work on the path ,thin round the cherry, and  finish the bramble

Tomorrow in the meadow

Its a busy time of year trying to get all the winter tasks done before the birds start to nest. What with paths to repair, charcoal to be fired and pottery kilns to be dug as well its busy busy. Tomorrow we will be cutting back blackthorn from the foraging plantation and from the boundary then burning it off. We also have our members doing training with the old chainsaws, with a bit of luck we will have three new cutters and two members taking an advanced cause. A few years ago anyone could pick one of these bad babes up and cut away, not any more . Virtually everything we do requires training of one sort or another,in the case of chainsaws its good that everyone should be trained but no one can take a risk anymore there are no adults in this country with the capability of taking a risk ,we all have to be led by the hand and shown what to do.

Well thats my rant over we look forward to our scones at lunch, smelling of smoke and the lovely feeling that we are doing a good job.

See you tomorrow

Ron

my little camera did ok

One side is closed in with no light with mainly Ash crowding everything else out ,the other is open with around 13 new varieties of trees 2 new kind of bulbs planted and the grass coming back to life but believe it or not some people think its a mess even though its been checked out by leading experts . funny how sometimes no matter what you do you always get the odd person trying to cause trouble

tasks

Tomorrows tasks are to bring the brash from the far side of the foraging plantation on to a site we have already had a fire and to burn it off. Please don’t burn it on the grass outside the trees as it will enrich the soil . I will not be able to make it before 12.30 . In the afternoon we need to continue to cut the black thorn back and finish the safely barrier Construction sign round the kiln hole .please be careful as it may well be very slippy
Ron
